Lady Bears drop close one at Northwest

Box Score The Lady Bears dropped a close one on the road Tuesday night as the host Northwest Mississippi Lady Rangers came from behind to get a 61-57 win in Senatobia.
 
Falling behind early, the Lady Bears came back to lead most of the first quarter and held a 15-11 advantage at the end of the first 10:00 of play.
 
With the teams trading baskets, the Lady Bears continued to hold on to their lead throughout the second quarter. They took their largest lead of the half, 28-19, on a
Taylor Ben three-pointer just before the end of the half.
 
The Lady Bears took their largest lead of the game just 0:16 into the third quarter when Jolie Williams nailed a trey to make the score 31-19.
 
The tide then turned in favor of the home team as Northwest went on a 20-7 tear the remainder of the quarter to take a 39-38 lead with one quarter sill to play.
 
The Lady Bears refused to go quietly as a 9-2 run, capped by a D'Mya Wilson jumper, brought them to within 57-55 with 0:49 still to play.
 
Northwest, however, would hold on to the lead as they picked up the win in their season-opener.
 
Williams scored 12 points to pace the Lady Bears' offense while Wilson also scored in double figures with 10 points.
 
The Lady Bears were nearly perfect at the free throw line, making 8 of 10.
 
Northwest's Claire Fleming led all scorers in the game with 16 points. She and her teammates went 14-22 at the free throw line.
 
The Lady Bears return to the court on November 9 as they make their home debut with matchup against the Lady Rockets of Southern Arkansas University Tech. Fans should note that the tipoff time has been changed to 1:00.
