Lady Bears defeat Dyersburg State

A pair of goals from sophomore Auset Gibbs helped the Lady Bears break into the win column Sunday afternoon as they defeated the visiting Lady Eagles of Dyersburg State Community College, 5-2.
 
Taking the ball off a deflection, Gibbs put the Lady Bears up 1-0 at the 32:41 mark when she took a close touch and found the back of the net from 25 yards out.
 
The lead was short lived, however, as the first of two Nikindra Taylor goals allowed the Lady Eagles to knot the game at 1-1 at 34:19.
 
Madeline Beard put the Lady Bears (1-7) back on top, 2-1, at 55:35 when she scored off a rebound. Cheyenne Higgs was credited with the assist.
 
With an assist from Maria Loredo, Gibbs scored her second goal at 76:04 to increase the Lady Bears' lead to 3-1. Assisted by Christina Godfrey Katy Watt increased the Lady Bears' advantage to 4-1 at 80:28. The final goal for the home team came when Aimee Dilworth scored unassisted at 80:54
 
Taylor picked up the final goal of the game for the Lady Eagles (0-7) with only 0:13 on the clock.
 
"We were able to get the ball in the back of the net (several times)," said Lady Bears head coach Bee Casey. "But, we still have a lot of hard work (to do) going forward. Next week starts (South) Division play again so we need to prepare ourselves mentally."
 
Keeper Kimora Wells save eight shots in goal for the Lady Bears.
 
The Lady Bears return to action on September 25 with a 1:00 home match against South Division foe Jones College.
