Larsen's record day helps Bears remain undefeated

Sophomore Patrick Larsen set a program-record for the Bears Tuesday afternoon with five goals as the team remained undefeated with a 6-0 road win in Ridgeland over the Holmes Bulldogs.
 
The Bears moved to 3-0 with the win while the Bulldogs fell to 1-2.
 
Larsen took a pass in the box from Max Higginbotham and found the bottom corner of the goal to put the Bears on top 1-0 8:24 into the game.
 
Larsen then scored three more goals over the next 15:00 (with assists from PJ Irwin, Felipe Madero and Marcus Connolly) as the Bears built their lead to 4-0. A goal from Irwin, with an assist from Joaquin Bermejillo, left the Bears on top 5-0 with 3:45 before halftime.
 
Larsen then scored the record-breaker, and the final goal of the day, unassisted with 0:30 before halftime.
 
Keepers Conner Smothers, Ean Sherman and Ryan Ivey combined on the shutout.
 
"It's been an incredible day," Larsen said of his performance. "I'm honored to have five goals in one half. It was a great win for all of us and we're looking forward to the next game."
 
Addressing the performance of his team as a whole, head coach Alex Brown said he loved "how much my boys trust each other. They play so confidently and everyone relies on everyone else to make plays and finish plays. It's fun to watch."
 
"We just played a little conservatively," Brown continued, "and sat back and absorbed pressure then countered in transition when we had the numbers and got the matchups we wanted."
 
The Bears make their home debut, and open MACJC South Division play, Saturday at 3:00 with a home matchup against the Jones County Bobcats.
