Women's Basketball | 2/8/2018 10:24:00 PM

Gaining a measure of payback after an earlier road loss to the visitors, the Lady Bears made it six wins in a row Thursday night before a nearly full house as they overwhelmed the visiting Lady Eagles of Meridian, 62-47, in MACJC South Division action.

With the win, the Lady Bears moved to 16-3 overall and 7-3 in the South. Meridian fell to 11-8 and 4-6.

The Lady Bears got off to a 5-0 lead in the first quarter, with a
Keturah Bingham layup and a three pointer from Danyelle Lewis, and held the lead the entirety of the game. A Kacie Fountain jumper with 0:20 left in the first quarter left the Lady Bears with a 21-7 lead after the first 10:00 of play.

An
Amari Pittman bucket with 9:52 left in the second quarter increased the Lady Bears' lead to 24-7. Pittman then added a trey late in the quarter to give the Lady Bears their largest lead of the half, 34-11. They went the same advantage into the locker room at the end of the half.

It was more of the same for the Lady Bears in the third quarter. With a Lewis three pointer, with 7:00 on the clock, the home team took their largest lead of the night, 44-19. They went on to lead 52-28 at the end of the quarter.

The Lady Bears maintained their double-digit lead in the fourth quarter with their lead falling no lower than 12 points, 58-46, with 1:16 left in the game. They went on to claim the 15-point victory.

"Danyelle hit the ball extremely well," head coach Brent Harris said, "and broke their (Meridian's) pressure a couple of times by herself to keep us rolling.
Ty Lee gave us a spark off the bench," Harris continued. "And, we continue to get better in some areas that needed improvement."

Lewis scored 22 points to lead all scorers in the game while Bingham also scored in double figures (10). Fountain recorded eight assists. The Lady Bears went 5-14 at the free throw line.

Meridian was led by Rokila Wallace's 14 points. She and her teammates combined to 11-18 at the free throw line.

The Lady Bears hit the road for their next contest as they travel to Ellisville Monday night to face the 3rd-ranked Jones County Lady Bobcats in a crucial South Division contest. Tipoff is set for 5:30.
