The regular season came to a bitter sweet end for the Bears Monday afternoon as they and visiting Mississippi Gulf Coast played to a 4-4 double overtime tie in MACJC South Division action.

The Bears (11-2-1, 5-2-1 South) have secured a spot in this week's MACJC playoffs. They will begin post-season play Thursday (opponent/location and game time to be determined). Gulf Coast ended the season at 5-10, 2-6.

Assisted by Joaquin Bermejillo, Jarrett Greenscored from inside the six at the 11:33 mark to put the Bears on top 1-0. The lead held up until 28:00 in the game when Gulf Coast scored to knot the game at 1-1.

Less than 2:00 later, at 30:27, Marcelo Carias scored from inside the 18 to put the Bears back in the lead, 2-1; Felipe Madero assisted. Gulf Coast then came back at 36:39 to send the teams into intermission tied at 2-2.

With an assist from Max Higginbotham, Madero scored at 45:29 to give the Bears a 3-2 advantage. An unassisted goal from Nate Bond, at 71:31, put the Bears up by two goals, 4-2.

Unfortunately for the Bears, they were unable to hold onto the lead as Gulf Coast scored at 78:27 and 87:44 to tie the score at 4-4, forcing extra play.

Neither team was able to find the back of the goal in the overtime periods, leaving them tied after 110:00 of play.

After the game, Bears head coach Alex Brown said, "Gulf Coast has a good squad. Nothing against those guys, but I think knowing our fate was sealed, we took our foot off the gas and were a little complacent today. And that falls on me, I'm the head coach. But, we got through the game today and the regular season with no major injuries so that's a huge positive headed into the postseason."

"We're excited to get an opportunity to be in the postseason," Brown continued, "Obviously, we prefer favorable matchups, but we're going to show up and play whoever the MACJC tells us to play and move forward one day at a time. We are very eager for Thursday to get here."
