Lady Bears fall at home to 6th-ranked Jones County

The Lady Bears dropped their second game of the season Thursday night as they fell 69-52 at home to the 6th-ranked Jones County Lady Bobcats in MACJC South Division action.
 
The first quarter featured four ties and three lead changes. The Lady Bears took their biggest lead of the night, 8-4, on a
Ty Lee layup with 6:32 left in the opening quarter. Jones County (10-2, 3-0) then outscored their hosts 8-3 the remainder of the quarter to hold a 12-11 advantage after the first 10:00 of play.
 
Lee's jumper with 9:16 left in the second quarter put the Lady Bears on top 13-12. Jones County then regained the lead for good, 15-13, with 6:34 to go before the break. They went on to take a 23-17 lead into the locker room at intermission.
 
A jumper from
Danyelle Lewis, with 9:50 left in the third quarter, pulled the Lady Bears back to within 23-19. Jones County then went on an 11-4 run to extend their lead to 34-23 with 6:07 on the clock. They then took a 44-35 lead into the final quarter.
 
The final quarter belonged to Jones County. After a
Jamaya Galloway bucket cut the Lady Bears' deficit to 44-36, with 9:47 left in the game, the visitors took control.
 
Jones County took their biggest lead of the night, 69-48, with 2:13 on the clock and went on to record the 17-point victory.
 
"I thought we played okay tonight, honestly," said Lady Bears head coach Brent Harris. "It was the little things that cost us. Not blocking out on some crucial rebounds was costly."
 
Lewis totaled 15 points to top the Lady Bears' (10-2, 1-2) offense. The Lady Bears were nearly perfect from the free throw line, making 17 of 19.
 
Jones County's Nique Cherry led all scorers with 24 points. She and her teammates combined to go 7-12 from the free throw line.
 
The Lady Bears look to get back into the win column Saturday afternoon when the visit the Meridian Community College Lady Eagles. Tipoff for the South Division contest is set for 1:00.
