Lady Bears pick up shootout win at LSU-A

The Lady Bears made the long trip to Alexandria, LA, Sunday and came home with a victory after taking a 3-2 decision, over the LSUA Lady Generals JV, that was decided in a shootout.
 
The Lady Bears trailed 1-0 at the end of the first half. They tied the score at 1-1 in the 64th minutes when Auset Gibbs followed through on a deflected shot and score on an open goal.
 
At 76:05 of the game, the LSUA goalie stepped out of the box to clear the ball. Lesley Walker then took advantage of the open goal to find the back of the next and give the Lady Bears (4-4) a 2-1 lead.
 
LSUA then scored the final goal of regulation at 88:08 to knot the game at 2-2.
 
By mutual consent of the head coaches, the teams then engaged in a shootout rather than 10:00 overtime periods.
 
The Lady Bears made good on five shots in the shootout, to three for LSUA, to gain the win. Shootout goals for the Lady Bears came from Gibbs, Nohemy Giraldo, Walker, Nevin Holley, and Janiya Watkins.
 
"I was very impressed with the Lady Bears today," said head coach Bee Casey. We not only improved our technique, but also out tactical awareness that allowed us to win the game."
 
Concluding her post-game comments, Casey said "Going forward, this opportunity to play against a four-year school is a great recruitment tool, but it's also a great tool for the players to excel and really showcase their abilities."
 
The Lady Bears return to action on September 29 when they face the Holmes Lady Bulldogs in Ridgeland. The non-division contest is set for a 1:00 start.
