Leading for almost the entire game, the Lady Bears ran their record to 4-0 Tuesday night with a 91-67 win over the Southern-Shreveport Lady Jaguars on the final night of the Southwest/Coca-Cola Classic.

The Lady Bears trailed early in the game before a 6-0 run, capped by a
Nia Henderson layup, left them on top 10-4 with 3:31 left in the opening quarter. A 9-1 run later in the quarter left the Lady Bears on top 19-7 and they took a 21-10 lead into the second quarter.

Baskets from
Jamaya Galloway and Amari Pittman resulted in a 25-10 lead for the Lady Bears with 8:08 left in the second quarter. Peyton Papenburg's jumper with 5:09 on the clock then gave the Lady Bears their biggest lead of the first half, 31-13.

The Lady Jaguars (2-5) then found their groove and went on a 14-3 run to close to within seven, 34-27, with 1:27 left in the half. The Lady Bears responded by scoring seven of the final nine points of the half and carried a 41-29 advantage into intermission.

The second half belonged to the Lady Bears. A three pointer by Pittman, with 2:22 left in the third quarter, gave the Lady Bears their biggest lead to that point, 63-37, and they took a 67-44 lead into the final quarter.

Outscoring the visitors 12-7 to  open the fourth quarter, the Lady Bears took their biggest lead of the night, 79-51, on
Danyelle Lewis' layup with 5:51 to play and they went on to get the 24-point win.

"Tonight was our best decision-making night, offensively," said Lady Bears head coach Brent Harris. "(But) we still have to get an identity on defense. Our sophomore leaders had better energy in the second half which allowed us to extend the lead."

Lewis led the Lady Bears in scoring with 13 points.
Tootie Rankin scored 12 points while Pittman and Galloway were also in double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Rachel Thompson led the Lady Bears on the boards with 11 rebounds. As a team, the Lady Bears hit 14 of 20 free throws.

The Lady Jaguars' D'Kira Spivey led all scorers with 17 points. The visitors made 11 of 21 free throws.

After taking time off for Thanksgiving, the Lady Bears will return to action on November 27 when they visit the Coahoma Lady Tigers for a 6:00 non-division contest.
