Bears defeat host Spring Hill JV 97-54

Bouncing back from a tough loss at Baton Rouge, the Bears returned to the win column Monday night with a 97-54 win road win over the Spring Hill College JV in Mobile.
 
The Bears (7-3) took an early 3-0 lead on a Rodrick Sikes three pointer. A Mike Parks, Jr., jumper then had the Bears on top 11-2 with 16:29 left in the opening half.
 
After Spring Hill outscored the Bears 10-5 to pull back to within four points, 16-12, the Bears scored 14 of the next 22 points and took a 30-20 lead on
Emanuel Thompson's bucket with 8:37 on the clock.
 
Joseph Clayton's trey cut the Spring Hill deficit to 30-23, before a 25-7 run, capped by Mario Doyle's three pointer, left the Bears on top 55-30 at the end of the first half.
 
The second half was anticlimactic as the Bears outscored their hosts 42-24 to pick up the win.
 
"I was proud of the guys and how they responded (after) a tough game on Saturday," said third-year Bears head coach Thomas Gray. "I thought we made improvements on protecting the basketball and our attention to detail on the defensive end."
 
Sikes scored 24 points, his 10th game in double figures, to lead all scorers. Thompson recorded 19 points while Parks, Jr., and Doyle were also in double figures with 16 and 12 points, respectively. The Bears hit 18 of 30 free throws.
 
Clayton topped the Spring Hill offense with 13 points. The home team went 3-10 from the free throw line.
 
The Bears return to the court, and resume MACJC South Division play, Thursday when they face the Pearl River Wildcats in Poplarville. The contest is set for a 7:30 start.
