Home standing Lady Bears get close win over Northwest

The Southwest Lady Bears picked up their first win of the young season Saturday afternoon, defeating visiting Northwest Mississippi 2-1. The win moved the Lady Bears to 1-1 while Northwest also moved to 1-1.
 
The Lady Bears picked up the only goal of the first half on a header inside the box by Nohemy Giraldo in the 12th minute. Taylor Laurent picked up the first of two assists on the play and the Lady Bears led 1-0.
 
Northwest's Harlie Ray scored in the 58th minute to tie the game at 1-1. Ailin Franzante then picked up what proved to be the winning goal for the Lady Bears in the 64th minute with help from Laurent.
 
Lady Bears' goalie Jennifer Solis has five saves in the game.
 
Asked about the importance of her team's first win, Lady Bears head coach Bee Casey said, "Every win's important to us. I think that (today's win) allowed us to see where our mistakes are and our improvements need to be. We're excited to play again on Tuesday and then get back to training and learn from all of our mistakes and continue to get better."
 
The Lady Bears take to the road for the first time Tuesday when they travel to Ridgeland to face the Lady Bulldogs of Holmes. Start time for the game is 2:00.
