Gunnell, Southwest Sports Information Lady Bears take two at Coahoma, record fourth-straight conference sweep The Lady Bears picked up their fourth straight MACJC doubleheader sweep, and got their eighth straight win, with a 9-0 and 16-0 sweep of the home standing Coahoma Lady Tigers Friday afternoon. Both games were halted after the fifth inning. The wins moved the Lady Bears to 16-12 on the season, 9-5 in the MACJC. Coahoma fell to 0-24 and 0-16. The Lady Bears took a 2-0, first-inning lead in the opener when KELCEY BREMENKAMP was hit by a pitch, AUSTIN PRUITT singled and both scored on EMILY TUMINELLO's line-drive base hit to centerfield. The score went to 3-0 in the third when Pruitt walked to lead off and later scored on a sacrifice fly by KAYLA SANCHEZ. In the fourth, KRISTIE SANCHEZ led off with a single, the first of her two hits in the game, and later scored on Pruitt's base hit to left. Bremenkamp, on base via a fielder's choice, scored on an error and Tuminello's base hit scored Pruitt to extend the Lady Bears' lead to 6-0. An RBI single from MCKENZIE BROCK and Bremenkamp's run-scoring triple drove in two of the three runs the Lady Bears scored as they closed out the game in the top of the fifth. MACY FULTON allowed only a second-inning single in recording the win in the circle. She struck out seven batters. Fulton had a double in the game while JENNA DUFF and KAYLA SANCHEZ both had a single. Brock had two stolen bases in the game, giving her the Southwest single-season record of 24 (the previous record on 22 was set for Roxanne Lock in 2010). REBECCA DAVIS singled with two outs to score Bremenkamp and give the Lady Bears' a 1-0 lead in the top of the second in the nightcap. Davis later doubled in the game. The score went to 4-0 in the top of the third. KRISTIE SANCHEZ led off with a single and later scored on a bases-loaded double play. KAYLA SANCHEZ and Duff both had an RBI-double in the inning. Duff also singled in the contest. Pruitt doubled in the fourth inning and Brock walked and both scored on a fielder's choice to increase the Lady Bears' lead to 6-0. Pruitt's third hit of the game and an RBI single by JENEY HUDSON helped the Lady Bears score 10 runs in the top of the fifth to close out the win. Davis allowed only two hits, while striking out eight, in getting the win in the circle for the Lady Bears. Brock had two hits in the game while JANA MCEWEN also hit safely.
