Lady Bears fall to Baton Rouge

The first night of the Southwest/Coca-Cola Classic was a tough one for the Southweset Lady Bears as they dropped a 56-45 decision to Baton Rouge Community College.

The Lady Bears were plagued by poort shooting all night and finished the game hitting only 32% of their shots from the field (19-60). Down 30-19 at the break, they were unable to recover in the second half and fell to 2-3 on the season.

Erica Newsome (Gulfport, MS, Gulfport) led the Lady Bears with a double double, scoring 18 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. Talisa Sherman (Richland, MS, Richland) added eight points whileMadison Mault (Purvis, MS, Lamar Christian) chipped in six. Cortney Epting (Jackson, MS, Lanier) and Teshia Jones (Stringer, MS, Stringer) both picked up five points with Gabriella Cortez (Natchitoches, LA, Natchitoches Central)netting two and Ke'Asia Gray (Mendenhall, MS, Magee) one. The Lady Bears hit six of 10 free throws.

Baton Rouge's Terriel Ross topped her team's offense with 14 points. She and her teammates made good on six of 11 charity shots.

The Lady Bear close out the Coca-Cola Classic at 5:30 Tuesday when they face the Lady Badgers of Spring Hill College.
