Lady Bears pick up win over visiting Bishop State

Behind Katrina Littlepage's 18 points, the Lady Bears picked up their first win of the season Thursday night with a 64-49 win over the visiting Lady Wildcats of Bishop State Community College (Mobile, AL).

The game was tight in the first half with Bishop State's (0-1) Aundre Adams' 15 points helping to keep. Littlepage picked up 10 of her points in the first 20:00 of play.

The Lady Bears (1-1) stepped up their game in the second half. An Eyonna Wolfe three-pointer put the home team up 47-30 with 9:25 left in the game. After that, Bishop State was able to come only as close as eight points, 50-42, with less than 5:00 to play.

"Our first half was very sluggish," said Southwest head coach Brent Harris. "But, April Levy got us going defensively in the second half which got our entire team going. We still have a long way to go, but progress was made tonight."

Levy followed Littlepage in scoring for the Lady Bears with 14 points. Also in double figures were Cortney Epting, with 13 points, and Tee Myers who had a double-double, with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Wolfe had three points in the game while Elayne Robinson registered two points. Damiya McCullough and Raven Reyes both scored one point. The Lady Bears made good on 15 of 26 free throws.

Adams topped Bishop State's offense with 18 points on the night. The Lady Wildcats hit four of 12 charity shots.

The Lady Bears remain at home for their next game as they host the Mississippi Delta Lady Trojans Monday night. Tipoff is set for 5:30.
