Lady Bears win big at Bishop State

Pick up fifth straight win

The Southwest Lady Bears got their Thanksgiving holiday off to a great start Monday night as they picked up an easy 62-31 win on the road at Bishop State Community College in Mobile. The win was the fifth in a row for the Lady Bears and ran their record to 5-1 on the season.

Southwest takes the rest of the week off before returning to action December 2 when they travel to Goodman to face the Lady Bulldogs of Holmes. Tipoff is set for 6:00.

Baskets by April Levy put the Lady Bears up 5-0 with 17:19 to play in the first half and they never looked back. A three-pointer from Levy made the score 26-6 with 5:28 on the clock and a Janeesha Booth free throw made the score 35-10 at the end of the first 20:00.

The second half was more of the same as Southwest continued to score seemingly at will. When Talisa Sherman laid the ball in the basket with 10:46 left in the game, the Lady Bears held a 54-22 win. They went on to the 31-point victory.

Southwest head coach Brent Harris said he had discussed with his players, prior to the game, the dangers of being distracted by the holiday and eagerness of the players to travel home. "We harped on that a lot going into this game," Harris said, "probably more so than (being on) the road or anything else and staying focused and, we were (focused). I'll give them (the Lady Bears) credit; on a long bus ride and on a kind of rainy day, we came out with energy and focus and played pretty well."

Katrina Littlepage led Southwest with 13 points in the game. Elayne Robinson scored nine points while Levy had eight and Courtney Epting tallied six.

Madison Mault, Tee Myers and Sherman all netted five points for the Lady Bears. Eyonna Wolfe scored four and Booth added three. Raven Reyes registered two points while Tatyana Dobbins and Fredrikah Wilson both had one. The Lady Bears made good on 15 of 26 free throws.

Bishop State was led by Aundre Adams' nine points. The Lady Wildcats hit five of eight free throws.
