Lady Bears win second straight

Tuesday was a mixed day for Southwest soccer as the Lady Bears defeated host East Central, 2-1, for their second straight win while the Bears fell 2-1 in overtime.

With the win the Southwest women moved to 3-5 on the season while the Lady Warriors fell to 2-7. The Bears dropped to 1-6-1 with the loss while the East Central men are 4-3-2.

Two first-half goals by freshman Jessica St. Pierre, at 14:00 and 19:00, provided all the scoring the Lady Bears would need. Courtney Palisi and Katelyn Doyle provided the assists.

Southwest held the 2-0 lead until Sydney Dawkins found the back of the goal at 47:00. But, that would be all the scoring for the day.

Southwest keeper Erin Sumrall recorded four saves of the five Lady Warriors’ shots on goal to record the win.

The Lady Bears and Bears return home on Saturday for their next contests as they host Northwest. Game times are 2:00 for the women and 4:00 for the men.
