Bear Baseball homers four times against No. 4 East Central

Southwest Mississippi Baseball traveled to Decatur on Tuesday, April 14th to play No. 4 East Central in a doubleheader.

Southwest lost game one 20-7 and lost game two 5-2.

Matt Newman started on the mound for the Bears in game one.

Newman pitched 2.2 innings with 1 strikeout and took the loss for Southwest.

Easton Boyte pitched 0.1 innings with 1 strikeout.

Brian Hankinson relieved before Wyatt Garrett pitched 1.0 innings with 1 strikeout.

Camp Segrest pitched the final 2.0 innings with 2 strikeouts of his own.

The Bear bats started out hot with two homeruns in the first two innings.

Justin Domiano hit a solo homerun in the first inning to give the Bears a 1-0 lead.

East Central answered with a homer of their own to take back a 2-1 lead.

Hayes Loper opened up the second inning with another Southwest homerun to tie the game 2-2.

Tanner Moore scored on a wild pitch in the third inning to give the Bears a 3-2 lead.

Things quickly got away from the Bears as East Central had a 9-run inning to take an 11-3 lead over Southwest.

Drew Swan opened up the fourth inning with yet another Bear homerun to make the score 4-11.

Southwest put up 3 more runs in the fourth to close the gap to 7-11, but it would not prove to be enough as it would be the last Southwest run of the game.

The Bears would go on to lose game one 7-20 to No. 4 East Central.

Tanner Moore, Justin Domiano, Hayes Loper, Drew Swan, Sam Tumminello, and Tristain Haynes each had 1 hit in game one.

Justin Domiano, Hayes Loper, and Drew Swan all had a homerun.

Tanner Moore led the team with 2 RBIs and 1 stolen base.

Game two was a much closer contest that saw Southwest lose 2-5.

Rhyson Carroway started the game for the Bears and picked up the loss.

Carroway pitched 3.0 innings with 4 strikeouts.

Nik Carney pitched the next 2.0 innings with 5 strikeouts, 0 hits, and 0 runs allowed.

Dom Smith pitched the final inning with no hits allowed and 2 strikeouts.

Both of the Bear runs came in the fourth inning.

JD Hidalgo opened up the inning with a homerun to get Southwest on the board.

The next run and final Bear run came on a Sam Tumminello single that scored Robbie Hokamp.

Tanner Moore, JD Hidalgo, Justin Domiano, Drew Swan, Sam Tumminello, and Luke Simmons each had 1 hit in game two.

JD Hidalgo had a homerun. Drew Swan had a double.

Drew Swan and Robbie Hokamp each stole a base.

Southwest would lose game two 2-5.

The Bears (26-18, 10-10*conference) will host Coahoma on Saturday, April 18th.
