Bears walk off Delgado

Southwest Mississippi hosted Delgado Community College in a doubleheader on Friday, March 6th losing game one 4-6 and winning game two 5-4.

Rhyson Carroway started game one on the mound for the Bears picking up 5 strikeouts in 3.0 innings pitched.

Andrew Hoff pitched 2.1 innings with 3 strikeouts and no hits allowed and picked up the loss for Southwest.

Brian Hankinson, Tee Robinson, and Luke Simmons saw time on the mound as well.

Simmons had 3 strikeouts and Robinson had 2.

JD Hidalgo led the team with 2 hits while Justin Domiano and Luke Simmons both had 1.

Cam Bolden and Luke Simmons each stole a base in the contest.

Southwest would go on to lose game one 4-6.

In game two, Easton Boyte started at pitcher for the Bears. Boyte pitched 2.0 innings with 1 strikeout.

Talen Boyd pitched the next 3.0 innings with 2 strikeouts of his own.

Dom Smith finished off the last 2.0 innings on the mound with 3 strikeouts and no hits allowed while also picking up the win for Southwest.

After two innings, the game was tied 2-2.

The 2 Bear runs came from a JD Hidalgo run on a Drew Swan ground out followed by a Justin Domiano score on a Luke Simmons single.

After five, the game was tied at 3-3 with the next Bear run coming on a Luke Simmons score in the fourth inning.

Delgado went up 4-3 in the top of the seventh, leaving the Bears with the opportunity to walk off yet another game.

Tristain Haynes kicked off the inning with a single to right field. Haynes then advanced to second on a Tanner Moore sacrifice.

After stealing third, Haynes scored on a JD Hidalgo bunt to tie the game 4-4.

With Hidalgo stealing all the way to third and 2 outs, Justin Domiano singled to right field to score Hidalgo and win the game 5-4 for Southwest.

Justin Domiano had 3 hits in the game including the game winning single. Tristain Haynes, Hayes Loper, and Luke Simmons all had 1 hit.

JD Hidalgo, Justin Domiano, Drew Swan, and Luke Simmons each had 1 RBI.

JD Hidalgo (x2) and Tristain Haynes stole bases in the contest.

"Toughness is obvious with this group. They continue to play every game until the last out is made. We've been in a bind because of injuries the past two weeks, but our guys keep stepping up and I'm proud of them for that," said Head Coach Jack Edmonson, "we are excited about conference and a little down time over spring break. It's much needed."

The Bears (16-7) travel to Poplarville on Tuesday, March 10th to take on Pearl River in a doubleheader.
