Southwest Mississippi's Men's Basketball lost 56-83 on the road to the East Mississippi Lions on Thursday, January 29th.

The Bears started the first half slow with only 2 points in the first 6 minutes, finding themselves in an 8-2 deficit which quickly turned into a 25-11 lead for the Lions.

Southwest picked up the scoring a little in the final minutes of the first half but still found themselves in a 24-46 hole at the half.

The Lions took their momentum into the second half scoring two quick buckets before the Bears finally started adding to the scoring.

East Mississippi's three pointers couldn't be stopped at the Bears soon found themselves in a 40-67 deficit with 10:17 remaining in the game.

Brian Foxworth caught fire in the final minutes with three back to back buckets for the Bears, but it was not enough to cut down the Lions lead.

Southwest would go on to lose 56-83 in Scooba picking up their first conference loss and moving to 3-1 in the conference.

Andre Ngomabie led the scoring with 13 points, and Courterius Scott contributed 8 points to the scoring column.

"We just weren't good enough tonight in any phase of the game. Shooting. Free throw shooting. Defense. Fouling. Mindset and understanding the game plan," said Head Coach Corey Schmidt, "we got off to a slow start offensively, missing some shots we normally make and some free throws. Then we let that get in our heads and take us out of our game."

"We just have to be mentally tougher to stick with it, have to be more together. We need to get back to doing what got us on our three-game winning streak," said Coach Schmidt.

The Bears (9-11, 3-1*conference) look to get back in the win column on Monday, February 2nd as they take on Holmes Community College at home.
