Bears get 80-68 win over Roane State

The Bears closed out the Columbia State Classic in Columbia, Tennessee, with a convincing 80-68 win over the Raiders of Roane State Community College Saturday afternoon.

After the teams traded leads four times in the early going, the Bears took the lead for good, 5-4, on Andre Ngomabie slam dunk with 15:59 left in the first half.

The Bears led 17-8, with 12:07 the clock, before Roane State scored 15 of 34 points to narrowed the score to 26-23 with 5:01 on the clock.
Less than 3:00 later, a Robert Flantroy II steal and layup gave the Bears their largest lead of the half, 38-28, with 2:30 left in the half They would go on to take a 42-33 advantage into the locker room at intermission.

A Courterius Scott trey highlighted a 12-4 run by the Bears to open the second half that gave them their largest lead of the game, 54-37, with 15:48 still to play.

Roane State would to draw to within 54-48 with 12:37 left in the game, but they would be unable to get any closer as the Bears held on for the 12-point victory.

Scott led the Bears' offense with 23 points in the game. Leano Rolle also scored in double figures, with 13 points, while Flantroy II and Chidi Nwosu both netted 10 points.

The Bears went 13-22 at the free throw line.

The Bears return to action on January 10 against Southern University-Shreveport in Shreveport, Louisiana. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00.
