Box Score After losing momentum early in the second half of Tuesday's road match, the Bears got the final push that they needed in the end with a late goal with under 10:00 to play helping them secure a 3-2 win over host East Mississippi. After the match, Southwest head coach Zach Mills said that he was proud of his team's resilience in the end, fighting back to break the tie with a late goal.
"They didn't stop, they kept fighting," he said. "They didn't give up and that means a lot. Hopefully they understand that is a good attitude to have because life is always going throw something at you."
The Bears (4-3-1, 1-1-1 MACCC) broke through early on against the Lions getting a goal from Max Ruelke in just the 6
th minute on an assist from Chris Cobon, putting Southwest up 1-0.
The strong offensive push paid off for the Bears later on in the first half as Dews Jussely connected on a pass to Ilan Marin before the latter found the back of the net for Southwest's second goal. The score came in the 20
th minute.
In the second half, however, the Bears had difficulty slowing down the Lions as they netted scores in both the 48
th and 49
th minutes to tie the match at 2.
But the Bears had one more rally in the end in the 80th minute as Jussely stepped up once again, this time as the goal scorer, sending a ball past the East Mississippi goalkeeper and in for the go-ahead and eventual game-winner.
Jussely led the Bears with a goal and an assist.
The Bears return home Friday, hosting No. 15 Gulf Coast at 7 p.m.
