Box Score The Bears erased a 2-0 first half deficit with a pair of Ilan Marin goals in the final 45:00 of play of Tuesday's MACCC Conference opener at Co-Lin but in the end they could not keep it going as match ended in a 2-2 tie.
"He showed his value tonight," Southwest head coach Zach Mills said of his freshman midfielder.
Mills added that as a whole, his team played well but there was room for improvement. "I think that if we played up to our standard, we would have won the game," he said. "It is a good lesson, it is the first match of conference play. It is good to see the boys come back, equalize it and get a point on the road."
The Bears (3-2-1, 0-0-1 MACCC) got off to a bit of a slow start as the Wolves scored in the second minute, putting the visitors down early. That score stayed true for the remainder of the first half as Southwest couldn't get the equalizer.
In the 64
th minute, the deficit, unfortunately, grew to two as the Wolves put another in the net making it a 2-0 match.
Despite the deficit, the Bears continued to fight and their hard work paid off not long afterward.
About a minute later Marin got a beautiful pass from Zach Rhynehardt before sending a ball past the Co-Lin goalkeeper, cutting the deficit in half at 2-1.
Twelve minutes later, the equalizer came as Marin once again shined with a goal following a pass from Brian Sanchez who registered his fourth score in the past three matches, which tied the game at 2.
In the final 12:00 of the match, both teams fought hard trying to get the go-ahead score, but the opposing defenses prevented the opportunities as the match ended in a tie.
After the match, Mills praised his team's fight not only for his players motivating each other but the spark provided from the coaching staff as well.
The Bears open the home slate of conference play on Friday hosting East Central at 7 p.m.
