Southwest Tennis unable to get past No. 19 Meridian in hard-fought effort

Hoping to find success against not only a ranked opponent but also a conference one, the Southwest Tennis teams were aiming to pick up big road wins over the Meridian Eagles, Friday. And despite putting up fights, the Bears and Lady Bears unfortunately came up short as the women lost 7-0 and the men fell 5-4.

Among the wins for Southwest, were one in doubles play and three in individual play.

The doubles win came from the No. 3 team of Juan Cifuentes and Thomas Simpson who claimed an 8-2 victory.

In singles play, No. 1 Mansur Khajimuradov claimed a 6-3, 6-3 win. Also victorious were No. 5 Jay Magee who won 6-3, 7-6 and No. 6 Thomas Simpson who walked away with a 6-3, 6-2 decision.

Both teams will be back in action on March 21 when they travel to Perkinston to face No. 12 Mississippi Gulf Coast.
