Southwest Tennis puts up fight, falls at No. 12 Gulf Coast

Playing in their first match in three weeks, the Bear Men's and Women's Tennis teams put forth a strong effort Friday at No. 12 Gulf Coast, but were unable to come out on top, falling 9-0 on the men's side and 9-0 on the women's side.
 
Among the highlights for Southwest was No. 1 singles Mansur Khajimuradov who was locked in a battle with Gulf Coast's No. 1 Vicente Faria. Khajimuradov took, the first set 6-2 and was leading 2-1 up a break in the second set but was unable to finish the match due to an injury.
 
Southwest head coach Dean Clower said the severity of the injury is unknown as of now.
 
Another is singles No. 2 Manan Kumar. Kumar, who Clower said has made huge strides since the beginning of the regular season, battled a very tough opponent in Gulf Coast No. 2 Gonzalo Cotter and was on the verge of winning the second set up 5-4 but unfortunately couldn't pull it out.
 
Southwest has a quick turnaround and will get back on the court Sunday at Millsaps. The women will start at 10 a.m. while the men will begin at noon.
