Bears come up short at East Central in season finale

The Bears were hoping to carry over the momentum built from Saturday's homecoming win over Jones into Thursday's season finale at East Central. And despite holding a lead over the Warriors at the end of the first half, they could not find the consistency they needed in the second, falling 27-13.

Southwest (3-6, 2-4 MACCC South) fell behind 7-0 early in the first after East Central scored on a 21-yard touchdown run.

The Bears answered right back on their first offensive possession as quarterback Silas Corder led a drive that wrapped with a 21-yard touchdown pass to Jac Comeaux. Sergio Neyra added the PAT, tying the game at 7.

Later in the quarter, Neyra delivered again, this time with a 35-yard field goal giving Southwest its first lead at 10-7.

That scored stayed true through the second quarter but not long into the third, the hosts grabbed the lead once again following a short touchdown run.

The Bears tried to answer but an interception set up the Warriors in the red zone. They converted a field goal increasing their lead to 17-10 with 6:33 left in the third quarter.

Southwest inched closer early in the fourth after Neyra made his second field goal of the evening, this time from 20 yards out. The make was set up following a key interception by Damion Miler which quickly swung the momentum over to the visiting sideline.

Later in the quarter, East Central got those three points back with a field goal, once again making the deficit seven points for Southwest.

Still within striking distance, the Bears looked for the equalizer, but a costly interception was returned for a touchdown putting Southwest down by two scores.

The visitors continued to fight but could not get into rhythm for the remainder of the contest as the Warriors walked away with the win.
