Southwest hosts Co-Lin for homecoming

Southwest Football hosted the Co-Lin Wolves on Thursday, October 1st for homecoming.

Co-Lin won the coin toss and deferred to the second half.

After the Bears received the opening kickoff, the teams traded punts for three possessions before the Wolves scored on a long pass that put them up 7-0 over the Bears.

The teams traded punts three more times before Co-Lin scored on another long pass to move their lead to 14-0 over Southwest.

The Bears answered back quickly on a 6 ply 80-yard drive that ended with a 52-yard touchdown pass from Jakhari Williams to Deori Pope to move the score to 7-14 with 7:20 remaining in the first half.

The Bears forced another Co-Lin punt before attempting a 51-yard field goal for Simon Naylor that was blocked at the line.

The Wolves took a knee to end the half leading 14-7 over Southwest.

The Bear defense came out hot in the second half by forcing a turnover on downs on Co-Lin's first drive of the half.

Southwest punted on their next possession but intercepted the Wolves immediately after giving the ball back.

Bernard Lackey came away with the interception and returned it 11 yards to the Co-Lin 24-yard line.

A few plays after the interception, Ronde Baker rushed for a 24-yard touchdown to give the Bears a chance a to tie the game, but the extra point was blocked by the Wolves to make the score 13-14 with Co-Lin still leading.

Co-Lin scored again right before the third quarter ended to go up 21-13 over the Bears.

Southwest had a few missed big play opportunities but failed to capitalize as they remained scoreless the rest of the game.

Co-Lin scored one more time midway through the fourth quarter to go up 28-13 and that would remain the final score.

Jakhari Williams led the team with 198 passing yards and 1 passing touchdown.

Ronde Baker led the team in with 53 rushing yards and 1 rushing touchdown on 14 carries.

Deori Pope led the team with 60 receiving yards and 1 receiving touchdown on 2 receptions. AJ Lewis also had 60 receiving yards on 4 receptions. Zay Martin had 48 receiving yards on 6 receptions.

Keena Galloway Jr. had 2 kickoff returns for 38 yards.

Bernard Lackey had 1 interception.

Alan Long had 6 punts for 234 punt yards with 2 inside the 20-yard line.

The Bears (1-5, 0-3*division) will travel to Perkinston to take on Gulf Coast on Thursday, October 8th.
