Bears welcome in Jones on Homecoming

The glitz and glamour of Southwest Homecoming Week 2025 will be capped off with the annual football game on Saturday and for the second time in three years, the opponent will be the Jones Bobcats.

The Bears enter the contest coming off of a tough 31-7 loss last week at No. 12 Hinds while Jones fell 21-7 at East Central.

Two seasons ago, Southwest hosted Jones for Homecoming in a highly-competitive contest that unfortunately was won by the Bobcats, 27-21.

This time around, the Bears are hoping for a better outcome and in order to compete with a tough Bobcats squad the Southwest offense will rely on an improved passing game which has gotten stronger as the season progressed.

The running game, led by Jalen Williams and Chris Hunter provide the balance with reliable backups, Keeghan Rodgers and Will Smith also available.

On the defensive side of the ball, sophomore linebacker BJ Mitchell is coming off of career-high 16 tackles to go along with a sack against the Eagles. Entering Thursday, he is second in the conference in tackles with 62.

The Bobcats enter with an offense led by Jevarion Glover who has 998 yards and five touchdowns through seven games. Glover is also a run threat as he has 84 carries for 448 yards and five scores, but the run game is led by Ky'Yon Harris who has rushed the ball 89 times for 498 yards and nine touchdowns.

TK Keyes leads the pass catchers with 31 catches for 582 yards and two touchdowns.

During the game, two new members of the Southwest Hall of Fame in Maggie Jackson Slaton and Stacey Mack and Alumnus of the Year Dr. Gerald "Doc" "Jerry" Hollingsworth will be recognized. In addition Homecoming Queen Ruth Bishop and her court will be introduced and recognized during halftime festivities.

The Bears and the Bobcats kick off Saturday at 5 p.m. from John I. Hurst Stadium. The game will be live streamed on BearTV and on K106 FM.
