RAYMOND — Southwest entered Thursday's MACCC South Division contest at Hinds hoping to play spoiler for the Eagles during their homecoming festivities. And even though the Bears had several positives, they unfortunately couldn't find the consistency they needed, falling 31-7, on the road.
 
The Bears (2-5, 1-3 MACCC South), was on offense first and even though they found success on the ground, the drive stalled, and Southwest was forced to punt.
 
After the Eagles took over, they put together a 17-play drive that ended with a short touchdown run.
 
Trailing 7-0, the Bears looked to answer but was shut down.
 
On the ensuing possession, Skylar Husband stepped up big for Southwest on the first play of the second quarter with an interception at the Bear 10-yard line which was returned to the Southwest 35, pumping new life into the visitors.
 
The momentum, however, was unfortunately short-lived as the Eagle defense put the brakes to another Bear drive.
 
It motivated the home offense as Hinds maneuvered its way down the field, methodically before scoring on another touchdown run making it a 14-0 deficit for Southwest.
 
The Bears continued to fight, trying to claw their way back into the contest but a costly interception was returned 50 yards for a touchdown making it a 21-0 game.
 
The entire third quarter consisted of both teams trading possessions with neither scoring.
 
In the fourth, the Eagles connected on a 22-yard field goal increasing the deficit to 24-0 for the Bears.
 
Charlie Fair came on in relief at quarterback and helped lead the Bears down the field and inside the Eagle 15-yard line, but they could not produce any points.
 
On the ensuing drive, the Eagles added to their lead with an 8-yard touchdown run making it a 31-0 game.
 
The Bears once again drove down the field on the next drive. This time, however, they finished the 11-play, 49-yard drive with a touchdown as Fair found Tahj Williby on a 4-yard touchdown pass. Sergio Neyra added the point after pulling Southwest closer at 31-7.
 
The Eagles ran out the clock on the following possession to seal the win.
 
Fair led the Bears completing 7-of-17 passes for 77 yards and a score.
 
Southwest had a pair of double-digit tacklers as BJ Mitchell had 16 including a sack for 8 yards and Skylar Husband posted 10 tackles and added an interception.
 
The Bears will be back in action on Saturday October 25 at 5 p.m. hosting Jones for Homecoming.
