Bears fall short at Paris JC

Following a strong showing in Saturday's season-opening win at Jacksonville College, the Bears unfortunately could not keep it going Monday, falling to Paris Junior College, 2-1.

"We were up 1-0 and it felt good," Southwest head coach Zach Mills said. "We were playing well but it was unfortunate that we hit the crossbar and we had some shots that were near-misses. We couldn't get that 2-0 lead. So, when they came back it was tough. We were still a little tired from the other day."

The Bears (1-1) got off to a strong start getting a goal from Justin Ruiz in the 14th minute on an assist by Giovanni Duarte.

Southwest's unfortunate miscues, in an attempt to build upon its lead, came back to haunt as the Dragons tied the game at 1 in the 40th minute on a goal.

In the 57th minute, the Bears fell behind for the first time in the match as Paris scored to take a 2-1 lead.

Southwest tried to rally to pull even but was unable to.

The Bears return to action on Saturday at 1 p.m. when they head to DeQueen, Arkansas to face the University of Arkansas at Cossatot.
