Bears fall short against No. 20 Delgado

Not even 24 hours removed from a big victory over No. 1 Heartland, the Bears, unfortunately, couldn't keep the momentum going Saturday in New Orleans, LA as they fell to Delgado 7-1 in Game 1 and 12-1 in Game 2.

"We couldn't pitch very well and that sums up our day," Southwest head coach Jack Edmonson said. "I thought that we were competitive for most of the day. We didn't give ourselves a chance against a good Delgado team."

The Bears (8-9) struggled a bit out of the gate as the Dolphins plated three runs in the first inning, followed by two each in the second and third.

Southwest fought hard to get back into the contest but couldn't find the right offensive consistency, despite out-hitting Delgado 9-6.

The Bears broke through with a run in the seventh when Reed Duthu singled to left bringing Sam Crowe home making the score the eventual final.

Duthu led the Bears going 4-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Dawson Richard also had a multi-hit game, finishing with two.

In Game 2, the Bears once again had difficulty at the beginning as Delgado scored seven runs in the first inning before adding two more the following.

Despite being down, Southwest continued to fight and plated a run in the third when Richard hit into a fielder's choice allowing Nolan Walther to score.

But it was answered in the bottom half of the inning as Delgado once again made it a nine-run deficit for the Bears.

Southwest was led by Walther who had a hit and a run scored.

The Bears return to action on Tuesday, hosting Nunez at 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.
