Going into Friday's regular season road finale, the Bears knew that they had no room for error and that a win over East Central would increase their chances of making a return to the playoffs.
And their recent strong play carried right over to their match against the Warriors as Southwest walked got a goal in the first half and played a smothering defense in the second, walking away with a 1-0 win.
"We did well, we did what we needed to do," Southwest head coach Zach Mills said.
The Bears (8-6-2, 4-4-2 MACCC) came out with an aggressive style of play and, per Coach Mills, had some difficulty locking in scores having at least two called back due to offsides calls.
They did get one to stick in the 38
th minute when Jack Boyd set up Sergio Padin who scored giving the Bears a 1-0 advantage.
In the second half, the Bear defense shined, proving to be a thorn in the sides of the Warriors. On the other end of the pitch, Southwest tried to add some insurance to its slim lead but had a missed opportunity on a shot that hit the post. Regardless, the defense held true as the Bears secured the win.
The victory sets up a "win and you're in" scenario for the Bears in Tuesday's 7 p.m. regular season finale against Co-Lin. A victory over the Wolves will secure a playoff spot for the second-consecutive season for Southwest.
