Bears fall just short at No. 13 Hinds

Fueled from tying the No. 10 Jones Bobcats earlier in the week, the Bears entered Friday's contest at Hinds hoping for more stellar play against another ranked opponent in the No. 13 Eagles.

And despite a better effort later in the contest, a slow start hurt the Bears as they fell 1-0.

"They are 13th in the nation and a good team, but we out-played them," Southwest head coach Zach Mills said. "(But) we didn't play up to our standards in the first 20 minutes."

Struggles early on by the Bears (6-5-2, 2-3-2 MACCC), began to take their toll as Southwest was unable to match the intensity of the host Eagles.

Hinds lit up its side of the scoreboard in the 31st minute with a goal, putting Southwest down 1-0.

Even though the Bears played better as the match wore on, it wasn't quite enough as the Eagles later sealed the win.

Southwest will be back in action with yet another road contest Tuesday at Itawamba at 3 p.m.
