After finishing last week's match in a scoreless draw with No. 19 Miss. Gulf Coast, the Bears were hoping to wrap non-conference play on a higher note Tuesday at Hinds. But the Bears couldn't get things going early on and after pulling even with the Eagles late, could not break the tie as the match ended with a score of 1-1.
"It was unfortunate because we were the better team tonight, we just couldn't find the back of the net more than once," Southwest head coach Zach Mills said.
Both the Bears (3-0-2) and the Eagles engaged in a tough, physical battle. Neither team scored in the first half as both were jockeying for position.
In the 63
rd minute, the hosts struck first putting Southwest down 1-0.
Unfazed, the Bears pressed on and were able to pull even less than eight minutes later when Caleb Trisdale scored on an assist from Jeysson Cruz.
Fueled by the momentum built from the most recent score, the Bears tried to take their first lead of the game but Hinds shut the door on any future possibilities as the match ended in the tie.
The Bears kick off conference play at 7 p.m. Friday when they host Jones.
