Going into Saturday's home conference match against Hinds, the Bears were hoping to keep the arrow pointing in the right direction without a setback.
Unfortunately, that was not the case as a late Eagles goal was not matched and Southwest fell 1-0 to the Eagles.
"Maybe in the first half hour I was pleased," Southwest head coach Zach Mills said. "We had a lot of opportunities but when you don't find the back of the net all game, you run the risk of a counter. They had maybe one real opportunity to make it work and they did."
The Bears (6-2-4, 3-2-2) tried to set the tone early with their aggressive style of play. On multiple occasions in the first half, they threatened to light up their side of the scoreboard first, however they were unable to.
With about 13:25 to go in the contest, Southwest had an opportunity to score on a penalty kick but a strong save by the Hinds goalkeeper kept the match scoreless.
The Eagles broke the scoreless streak with 7:37 to go to putting the Bears down 1-0.
Southwest tried to regain its composure and get back into the contest, but the Bears were unable to.
The Bears are back in action on Friday with a road contest at East Mississippi at 3 p.m.
