Men's BBall Team Camp

Men's Basketball | 6/22/2021 8:14:00 AM

The Southwest men's basketball team will be among 20 teams participating in the NJCAA team camp at Faulkner State University (Montgomery, AL) on June 25-26.

Head coach Bryan Bender's Bears will face four NJCAA Division I programs during the two day.

"This will be the first time since March, 2020, for NJCAA programs to have the opportunity to play in front of NCAA Division I programs due to the Covid-19 pandemic," Bender said. "It's a great chance for our guys to jump start their recruitment, bond as a team and see what it's like to play against high-level competition. We are fortunate to be at a place like Southwest where we are given this opportunity and we will make the most of it."

Bender also stated that he and his staff "are excited to have our guys compete together for the first time (in preparation for the 2021-22 season). We should have 12 players active and healthy for the event-four returners from last season, two juco transfers and six incoming freshmen-that will have the chance to play against four nationally-touted programs from Florida, Georgia and Illinois."

On June 25, the Bears will face John A. Logan College at 1:00 pm (JAL finished last season with an 18-5 record and was ranked 12th in the NJCAA); at 5:00 they will take on perennial power Northwest Florida State College.

At 9:00 am on June 26, the Bears will meet Georgia Highlands College (GHC finished last season at 16-3 and ranked 16th).

The Bears will close out their portion of the camp at 11:00 with a matchup against Chipola College. Chipola finished last season at 23-5 and with a #9 ranking. They advanced to the semi-finals of the NJCAA national championship tournament.
