Two goals from Cruz helps Bears defeat Northwest, 3-1

A pair of Nahuel Cruz goals helped the Bears open the 2021 soccer campaign with a 3-1 win over the visiting Northwest Mississippi Rangers Monday afternoon.

The Bears took a 1-0 lead just 5:00 into the match. Kaleb Jones used his speed to get open. He took his time to find Cruz on the back post and Cruz finished with an easy tap in. The lead held through the remainder of the half.

Northwest (0-2) tied the game at the 46:19 mark.

The match remained tied until 77:48 when Jaylon Crosby found Jones with a through ball behind the Northwest defenders. Jones then finished the 1v1 with a low shot to the back post to put the Bears in the lead, 2-1.

With just 0:37 left in the contest, Ryan Adderholdt's corner kick found Cruz who then used his head to send the ball in at the upper 90 for the final goal of the day.

Southwest keeper Abraham Bermudez had 10 saves on the day.

The Bears return to the pitch, and make their first road trip of the season, on April 7 when they pay a visit to Itawamba Community College in Fulton. The match is scheduled to get underway at 3:00.
