Bears drop conference-openers at Co-Lin

The Bears opened conference play Wednesday in Wesson by dropping a doubleheader at Co-Lin, falling 15-12 in game one before falling 11-1 in five innings in the nightcap.
 
A Braxton Cooksey RBI double and Jonathan Havard sacrifice fly accounted for two runs as the Bears took a 3-0 1st-inning lead in game one. Co-Lin then made it 3-2 in the bottom of the frame.
 
The Bears extended their lead to 8-2 in the top of the 3rd. The big blow of the inning came when Easton Porter blasted a pitch over the left field wall for a three-run homer. Jerod Williams had a solo homer while Mason Barker drove in a run with a single. Williams also had two singles in the game.
 
Havard singled to drive in a run in the top of the 4th to make the score 9-2.Co-Lin scored three times in the bottom of the inning to close to within 9-5.
 
In the Bears' 5th, Cooksey's RBI two-bagger and an Ajani Johnson run-scoring triple, his second hit of the game, gave the Bears an 11-5 advantage. Co-Lin answered with four in the bottom of the inning to make the score 11-9.
 
The Bears' final run of the game came on a Dillon Morgan sacrifice fly in the top of the 6th to put them on top 12-9. Co-Lin then scored three times in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at 12-12.
 
Co-Lin (7-6, 2-0) then took a 13-12 lead in their half of the 7th and added their final runs in the bottom of the 8th.
 
Justin Jones took the loss on the mound, allowing a run on two hits and two walks in 1 2/3 innings. He struck out one batter.

Brady Tynes had a double and two singles in the game.
 
Trailing 1-0 in finale, the Bears (1-9, 0-2) scored their only run on a Gage Gregory RBI single in the top of the 3rd to tie the game at 1-1.
 
Co-Lin scored five times in the bottom of the 3rd to go up 6-1 and went on to record the win.
 
Josh Bailey took the loss on the mound, surrendering six runs on five hits and two walks in 2 2/3 innings. He struck out two batters.
 
Williams singled twice for the Bears.
 
The Bears remain on the road for their next action as they travel to Clarksdale on March 6 to face the Coahoma Tigers. Game one of the MACCC twinbill is scheduled for a 12:00 first pitch.
