Lady Bears split conference doubleheader at Holmes

The Lady Bears split a road MACCC twinbill at Holmes Community College Saturday afternoon, winning the opener 8-1 before falling 6-5 in the finale.
 
A Bailey Buckley RBI double and an RBI base hit, the first of her three, from Halee Jenkins gave the Lady Bears (14-6, 6-4) two runs in the top of the 1st inning in game one. Buckley scored on a sacrifice to give the Lady Bears a 3-0 lead.
 
Ashleigh Rowland drove in a run in the top of the 3rd on a double, the first of her two hits in the game-she later scored on a fielder's choice-and Jenkins scored from third base on a bases-loaded hit batter to increase the Lady Bears' lead to 6-0.
 
The score went to 8-0 in the top of the 6th on a Jade Latham two-run homer, the last of her three hits in the game.
 
Holmes scored their lone run of the contest in their half of the 6th.
 
Jensen Gremillion picked up the complete-game win in the circle, allowing an unearned run on two hits and two walks. She struck out six batters.
 
Jenkins, Maggie Magee and Jenna Brock each had an RBI single in the top of the 3rd of game two to put the Lady Bears on top 3-0. Brock later added two more singles.
 
Holmes (11-7, 6-6) scored a solo run in the 3rd, four in the 5th and another solo run in the 6th to take a 6-3 lead.
 
The Lady Bears made a comeback attempt in the top of the 7th when Latham drove in a run with a base hit, the last of her four in the game, in the top of the 7th and Madison Moak, on base via a fielder's choice, scored on a sacrifice fly. But, that would be it for the Lady Bears as Holmes held on for the win.
 
Latham took the loss in the circle, giving up five runs (three earned) on six hits and a walk in 4.1 innings. She struck out four batters.
 
The Lady Bears return to the diamond on March 22 in Ellisville when the face 8th-ranked Jones. Game one of the conference doubleheader is set for a 1:00 first pitch.
