Lady Bear Softball playoff bound after outstanding season

With 3 wins in their final 6 games, the Southwest Softball Lady Bears secured a playoff bid in the Region 23 Tournament as the #9 seed.

They will travel to host site Co-Lin on Saturday, May 2nd to play #8 Hinds in a play-in game for a chance to make it into the double elimination bracket.

The Lady Bears finished the regular season with an overall record of 28-16 and a conference record of 15-13.

The team was ranked #19 and #24 in back to back weeks and has ranked wins over Jones, Pearl River, Itawamba, Hinds, and Northeast as well as a 1-run loss to #6 Jones and a 2-run loss to #4 Co-Lin.

Allie Ladnier has led the campaign on the mound for the Lady Bears all season.

Allie has a 14-7 record in 22 starts and 30 appearances on the season. She has 110 strikeouts in 140 innings pitched.

Freshmen Tristan Allen and Alexis Dejean have been pivotal in the Lady Bears offense as well.

Third baseman Tristan Allen broke the Southwest single season homerun record this season with 18 homeruns on the year.

Tristan Allen and first baseman Alexis Dejean both hold the new Southwest single season RBI record with 55 RBIs each on the year.

Dejean also has the second most homeruns on the team behind Allen with 11.

Sophomore second baseman Corin Talbot has been huge on offense as well as she broke the single season and career run record for Southwest and the single season and career doubles record.

Talbot also leads the team in batting average with .444.

Corin Talbot and freshman shortstop Bailey McLin lead the team with 63 hits each.

Bailey McLin is the leadoff hitter as a freshman and broke the Southwest record this season for consecutive games in a row with a hit at 21 games.

The Lady Bears look to cap off an outstanding season with a playoff run that all starts against Hinds on Saturday, May 2nd.
