Bears fall at home to Hinds

For 26:00, it appeared the host Bears were destined for yet another down-to-the-wire finish. Unfortunately, Hinds pulled away in the last 14:00 to defeat the Bears 91-80.
 
The first half featured four ties and eight lead changes. The Bears took their largest lead of the half, 5-2, on a Mazae Blake three pointer. They then matched that lead, 20-17, on a Malik Lamin bucket with 12:18 on the clock. 

Hinds' largest lead of the first half, 28-22, came with 10:13 showing and they went on to take a 49-47 lead into intermission.
 
A Lafollette Bogan trey and Tada Stricklen layup to start the second half put the Bears (7-5) on top 52-49 with 18:55 still to play. But, Hinds quickly outscored the Bears 10-5 to regain the lead, 59-57, with 14:37 to go.
 
The Bears tied the game at 59-59, with 14:07 remaining, on Lamin's jumper.
 
The tide then turned as Hinds (6-0) went on a 24-6 run to move out to an 83-65 lead with 6:37 still left. The Bears would be unable to close to gap to less than 13 points the rest of the way.

"We played a smaller lineup (in the final 14:00 minutes)," said Bears head coach Bryan Bender, "and they (Hinds) got up to a 10-point lead and then we tried to press and it opened up the game."
 
"Our guys competed for the first twenty six minutes," Bender continued, "We've got to continue to stay focused; we've got to be tough from start to finish and they (Hinds) were a little bit tougher and they made shots. They really played well offensively and we couldn't stop them and that's why we gave up 91 points."
 
Blake topped all scorers with 27 points. Carter scored 14 points and Stricklen netted 12.
 
The Bears went 8-15 at the free throw line.
 
Hinds was led by Jordan Johnson's 24 points. He and his teammates combined to make15 of 17 free throws.
 
The Bears take to the road for their next contest as they travel to Ellisville on March 4 to face the Jones Bobcats. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:00.
