Dillon Morgan smashed a 3-2 pitch over the left field wall in the bottom of the 7th inning to give the Bears a dramatic come-from-behind 5-4 win over the Hinds Eagles Monday in game one of their doubleheader. Hinds gained the split with a 5-4, 8-inning win in the nightcap.

Hinds took a 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning of game one. In the bottom of the frame, Braydon Coffey reached base on a two-out double to right field, the first of his three hits in the game, and later scored on a Brady Tynes base hit. Tynes then scored on a Braxton Cooksey double up the middle to put the Bears on top 2-1.

A run in the 4th and two more in the 5th gave Hinds a 4-2 lead.

In the bottom of the 6th, RBI singles from Jerod Williams and Gage Gregory resulted in a 4-4 tie. Both finished the game with two hits.

Then came the bottom of the 7th when Morgan launched his no-doubt game winner.

Ilich Purcell picked up the win on the mound for the Bears (1-3) with one walk in 3 innings of work.

In the finale, the Bears trailed 4-0 as they went to bat in the bottom of the 6th when Tynes, on base with a triple, and Mason Barker, on base via a walk, both scored without benefit of a hit to pull the Bears to within 4-2.

The Bears loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the 7th. A line-drive double from Barker, his second two-bagger of the game, then scored a pair of runs to tie the game. Unfortunately for the Bears, the potential game-winning runner was called out at the plate, necessitating the extra play.

Hinds (1-1) used a walk, two stolen bases and wild pitch to pick up what became the game-winning run in the top of the 8th. The Bears put a runner on base in the bottom of the inning, but were unable to score allowing Hinds to escape with the win.

Jacob McDaniel took the loss on the mound, giving up a run on one hit and a pair of walks in 2.1 innings. He struck out three batters.

Cooksey had a double for the Bears.

The Bears are scheduled to hit the diamond again on February 9 in Ellisville as they face Jones in a 3:00 doubleheader.
