Lady Bears take two from BRCC

The Lady Bears extended their winning streak to four games Saturday afternoon with a 10-2, 4-2 doubleheader sweep of visiting Baton Rouge Community College. Game one was stopped after five innings.
 
With the wins, the Lady Bears moved to 8-2 on the season. BRCC dropped to 3-8.
 
The Lady Bears took a 5-0 2nd inning lead in game one despite getting only two base hits. Shelby Mason drove in one run with a double, and later scored, while Halee Jenkins had an RBI single.
 
The score was 7-0 after three innings. BRCC scored solo runs in their half of the 4th and 5th innings to cut their deficit to 7-2.
 
The Lady Bears closed out the game in the top of the 5th. Jenna Brock drove in a run on a triple, and later scored on a passed ball. Jenkins' base hit, the last of her three hits in the game, drove in the final run.
 
Jensen Gremillion picked up the win in the circle, allowing one run on three hits and a walk in four innings. She struck out three batters.
 
Macie Miley had two hits for the Lady Bears while Ashleigh Rowland had a double.
 
The game two win came despite the Lady Bears only recording one hit. Madison Moak and Mel Lewis walked to open the bottom of the 2nd and scored on a passed ball and sacrifice, respectively to make the score 2-0.
 
With the score 2-1 in the bottom of the 6th, Mikenzi Authement drove in a run with a single. Ashja Walker walked and later scored on a ground out.
 
BRCC added the final run of the game in the top of the 7th and left the tying run on base.
 
Jade Latham went the distance in the circle to get the win. She allowed two runs, one earned, on five hits and three walks while striking out eight.
 
The Lady Bears return to the diamond, and open MACCC play, on March 2 when they host Co-Lin. The first pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 3:00.
