Lady Bears pick up wins over Crowder College, Mississippi Delta

The Lady Bears picked up a pair of wins Wednesday afternoon as they came from behind to defeat Crowder College 5-4 and beat Mississippi Delta 10-2 in five innings.
 
Crowder College, out of Neosho, MO, was ranked 20th in the NJCAA's Division I Pre-Season poll.
 
Against Crowder College, the Lady Bears took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 2nd when Mikenzi Authement tripled with one out and scored on an Anna Claire Crow sacrifice fly.
 
Crowder College (1-1) tied the game in the top of the 4th and added three runs in their half of the 5th to move out to a 4-1 advantage.
 
In the bottom of the 5th, a pair of singles, a bit batter and fielder's choice resulted in four runs for the Lady Bears to give them what proved to be the final runs of the game.
 
Crowder College put the tying and go-ahead runs on base in the top of the 7th, but were unable to score allowing the Lady Bears to record the win.
 
Jensen Gremillion picked up the win in the circle. In her five innings of work, she surrendered four runs on six hits while walking two and striking out four.
 
Jade Latham gave up two hits, walked one and struck out one in two innings to pick up the save.
 
Singles from Mel Lewis, Shelby Mason and Ashleigh Rowland each scored a run to put the Lady Bears up 3-0 after three innings against Mississippi Delta. Rowland also doubled in the game.
 
A bases-loaded ground out along with two-RBI doubles from Nan Gatlin, Authement and a two-RBI single from Mason in the 4th inning increased the Lady Bears' lead to 10-0.
 
Mississippi Delta avoided the shutout with a pair of runs in the top of the 7th.
 
Authement pitched 4.1 shutout innings, giving up four hits, walking four and striking out five to pick up the win in the circle.
 
The Lady Bears take to the diamond again, and play their final non-conference games of the season, on February 27 when they host Baton Rouge Community College. The doubleheader is scheduled for a 1:00 first pitch.
