Lady Bears fall in round one of Coca-Cola Softball Challenge

The Lady Bears dropped the first game of the Coca-Cola Softball Challenge presented by Powerade to host Co-Lin Tuesday night, 11-7.
 
Trailing 2-0, the Lady Bears (3-2) tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the 2nd inning when Jade Latham scored on an error and a bases-loaded walk allowed Ryleigh McManus to cross the plate.
 
A lead-off homer to centerfield by Madison Newman started a four-run 3rd for the Lady Bears that left them with a 6-2 advantage.
 
Co-Lin (7-0) answered in the bottom of the frame when they sent 12 batters to the plate and scored eight times to regain the lead, 10-6. A solo run in their half of the 5th extended their lead to 11-6.
 
Newman's RBI single in the top of the 7th, her third hit of the game, accounted for the Lady Bears' final run.
 
Jolie Freeman took the loss in the circle, giving up six runs on four hits and two walks in one inning of work.
 
Shelby Mason had two hits for the Lady Bears.
 
The Lady Bears return to the diamond Wednesday afternoon when they host Mississippi Delta in a 2:00 doubleheader. The games are scheduled to be played at Parklane Academy in McComb.
