Bears drop season-opener to visiting Co-Lin

It was not the start the Bears would have liked Thursday night as they dropped a 41-3 season-opening decision to the visiting Co-Lin Wolves.
 
The Bears took an early 3-0 lead, with 10:02 left in the opening quarter, when Josh Massa made good on a 37-yard field goal to close out an eight-play, 60-yard drive.
 
With 6:03 left on the first-quarter clock, Co-Lin knotted the game at 3-3 on a 46-yard field goal from Bryce Lofton.
 
Only 0:22 remained in the first quarter when Co-Lin scored a Lakenith Thompson two-yard scamper into the end zone. Lofton added the PAT to give Co-Lin a 10-3 lead. They would not trail the rest of the way.

The visitors went on to hold a 20-3 lead at the end of the first half and left town with the 38-point win.
 
The Bears were held to 165 yards of total offense. Brandon Edmondson completed 10 of 13 passes for 99 yards to lead the way. Jabez Griffith had four catches for 37 yards.
 
The Bears were penalized 7 times for 72 yards. Massa punted 5 times for a 35 yard average.
 
Co-Lin totaled 402 yards of offense. Paul Hargrave led the visitors with 201 yards, and two touchdowns, on 21 of 28 passing.
 
Co-Lin was penalized 5 times for 39 yards. Lofton averaged 32.5 yards on two punts.
 
The Bears will try again to pick up their first win of the year on October 8 when they travel to Decatur to face the East Central Warriors.
