The Bears gave the home fans all they wanted and more Thursday night as they defeated arch-rival Co-Lin 77-74, in overtime, in MACJC South Division play. The Bears led for all but 2:02 of the contest.

After seeing the visitors take an early 2-0 lead, Jalon Andrews and Damian Dear led a 7-0 spurt by the Bears that left them with a 7-2 lead with 17:40 left in the first half.

Later in the half, a Goodnews Kpegeol free throw capped a 9-0 run by the Bears (8-5, 2-2) that put them on top 19-10 with 13:01 showing on the clock.

The Bears then took their largest lead of the game, 27-14, on a Dear jumper at the 10:34 mark.

A 10-3 run by Co-Lin pulled them to within 30-24 with 6:30 remaining in the half. The teams then traded baskets for several minutes before a Spencer Rodgers trey gave the Bears a 42-31 advantage. They would take a 42-33 lead at the end of the half.

Co-Lin outscored the Bears 17-6 to open the second half and take a 50-48 lead with 14:35 left in the game.

The Bears then scored 15 of the next 18 points, taking a 63-53 lead on Andrews' jumper with 7:55 still to play.

Co-Lin (5-8, 0-4) fought back, outscoring the Bears 16-6 to take a slim 69-68 lead with 0:12 to go.

With 0:01 still showing on the clock, Kpegeol went 1-2 at the free throw line to knot the game at 69-69 and force the extra 5:00.

Co-Lin took a 70-69 lead early in the extra period. The rest of the overtime then belonged to Rodgers as he totaled all eight points for the Bears to give them the narrow win.

"It was fun to get a win," said Bears head coach Bryan Bender. "It was exciting. We always make things a little more exciting than they probably have to be, but we'll take it, leaving home with a win."

Rodgers led four Bears in double figures, and all scorers, with 23 points. Dear netted 13 points while Andrews had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds (plus five blocked shots) and Kpegeol tallied 10 points.. The Bears made 13 of 19 free throws.

Cameron Woodall paced Co-Lin's offense with 20 points. He and his teammates went 8-14 at the free throw line.

The Bears head to Ellisville for their next game as they face the host Jones Bobcats on January 21. The South Division matchup is scheduled for a 7:30 start.
