Bears fight hard, come up short at Holmes

Despite pounding out 14 hits in the game, the Bears saw a furious ninth-inning rally come up just short Friday afternoon as the host Holmes Bulldogs prevailed 10-7 in game one of their season-ending MACJC doubleheader. Holmes took game two 6-1.
 
The Bears trailed 4-0 in the opener before Michael Buck, on base with a double, scored on an error in top of the fourth to make the score 4-1.
 
Trailing 5-3 in the sixth, the Bears made it 5-2 in the sixth when Britt Netterville, on base with his second hit of the game, scored on a passed ball. Tyler White added an RBI base hit.
 
With the score 10-3 in the ninth, the Bears began their comeback attempt. Buck drove in one run with a bases-loaded single, his second hit of the game. With the bases still full, Paco Bello was hit by a pitch to force another run across the plate. Will Ford then scored two more runs with a double, his second hit of the game. That, unfortunately, proved to be it for the Bears as the tying run was left on base and Holmes (28-18, 11-17) held on for the win.
 
Brendon Baker took the loss on the mound for the Bears, giving up four run (two earned) on five hits and a walk in three innings of work. He struck out one batter.
 
Zach Dearman, Logan Larrimore and DJ Lewis each had two hits for the Bears. Reid Havard added a double.
 
The Bears (14-27, 6-22) trailed 6-0 in the finale before picking up their only run in the fifth inning. On base with a leadoff walk, Nathan Yennie scored on Ford's two-out single, his second hit of the game, just past the third baseman.
 
Ethan Campo took the loss for the Bears, allowing six runs on seven hits and two walks in 1.1 innings. He struck out two batters. Yennie doubled and singled in the game.
