Logan Larrimore

Baseball | 4/28/2019 9:26:00 AM

The Bears made Sophomore Day a memorable one Saturday afternoon as they came from behind twice to sweep the East Mississippi Lions 10-9 and 6-5 in MACJC action in Summit.

The Bears trailed 3-0 in the bottom of the first in game one before a Michael Buck RBI double, the first of his two hits in the game, made the score 3-1.

Trailing 6-1 going into the bottom of the fifth, the Bears picked up two runs on a Logan Larrimore single, Britt Netterville sacrifice fly and an East Mississippi error to pull to within 6-5.

In the Bears' half of the sixth, Will Ford forced a run home with the third of his four hits. Larrimore's second double, and third hit, of the contest scored a run and Paco Bello picked up an RBI single to put the Bears on top 8-6.

East Mississippi scored three runs in the top of the seventh to regain the lead, 9-8.

Leading off the bottom of the ninth, Netterville tied the game at 9-9 when he sent the first pitch he saw over the right field fence. The Bears then got the win in walk-off fashion when the next three batters reached base and Zach Dearman was hit by a pitch to force Tyler White across the plate.

Lane Gordon picked up the win in relief. In his 2.1 innings on the mound, he surrendered two hits and walked two while striking out two batters. Dearman and White both had a double in the game.

Buck's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first put the Bears (14-23, 6-18) on top 1-0 in the finale.

Trailing 4-1 in the bottom of the fourth, Easton Porter drove in a pair of runs with two outs, with the first of his two hits in the game, to pull the Bears to within 4-3.

The Bears made it 6-4 in the bottom of the fifth on the strength of Bello's RBI double and Tucker Watts' two-RBI single, his second hit of the game.

East Mississippi (9-28, 6-18) would score what proved to be the final run of the day in the top of the sixth.

Gage Kiser was the winning pitcher, giving up a run on two hits and a walk in 1.2 innings on the mound; he struck out two batters. Keith McKigney picked up the save, retiring all three batters he faced-one via a strikeout-in the top of the seventh.

The Bears hit the road for their next games as they travel to Perkinston on Tuesday to face the Mississippi Gulf Coast Bulldogs. Game one of the conference twin bill is scheduled for a 3:00 first pitch.
