Lady Bears softball splits season-opening twinbill at Hinds

Lady Bears' pitching held the host Hinds Lady Eagles to one hit and Carrington Jefcoat drove in the only run needed in the first inning as the Lady Bears picked up a 6-0 win Monday afternoon in game two of their season-opening twinbill. Hinds won the opener, 5-0.
 
Tia Bussey led off the Lady Bears' first with a single past third base and scored on the first of two Carrington base hits to make the score 1-0. Bussey later added a second base hit.
 
The Lady Bears (1-1) exploded for five runs in their half of the third inning. Madison Newman drove in two runs with a double to centerfield while Jordan McNabb and Bussey both singled in a run.
 
Also in the third, Ryleigh McManus, on base via a two-base hit to left field, scored on an error by the Hinds (4-1) catcher. McManus also had a single in the game.
 
McNabb picked up the win in the circle for the Lady Bears, walking three and striking out a pair in four innings of work. Jade Latham pitched two innings, giving up the lone Hinds hit while walking one and striking out one. Kalyn Chemin spent one inning in the circle.
 
Josey Nations doubled and singled for the Lady Bears while Jami Spears hit safely twice.
 
The Lady Bears make their home debut on Wednesday as they host Baton Rouge Community College. Game one of the doubleheader is scheduled for a 3:00 first pitch.
