The Bears took one on the chin Thursday night when they dropped a 41-14 decision to MACJC South Division foe Hinds Community College in Summit.

Hinds held a 14-0 lead at the end of the first 15:00 of play with on touchdown runs from Don Ragsdale (72 yards) and Tylan Morton (22 yards). Carson Flumm added both PAT's.

The Bears drew to within 14-7 in the second quarter when quarterback Da'Bryan Magee closed out a 10-play, 73-yard drive with a three-yard scamper into the end zone. Brazos Webb added the extra point with 13:50 left before halftime.

Hinds (2-2, 1-1) added two more touchdowns, on a six-yard run from Ragsdale and Eric Clark's 13-yard scoring reception. Flumm booted both extra points to give the visitors a 28-7 lead at the end of the half.

Both teams added a touchdown in the third quarter to leave Hinds on top 35-14. The Bears' score came on a 15-yard run from Devante Johnson with 3:29 on the clock. Webb added the PAT.

Flumm kicked field goals of 20 and 35 yards in the fourth quarter to close out the scoring.

Despite the loss, Bears head coach Tim Stowers said he "saw some good things; I saw us continue to compete late in the game. I was somewhat concerned with the way we were playing consistently in the first half, especially on the defensive side of the ball."

"But, it's a team game," Stowers concluded. "You've got to do better on offense, getting ball in the end zone on fourth down or converting on fourth down and get points on the board. And, we've got to do a good job of not giving up the big plays on defense."

The Bears totaled 402 yards of offense on the night. Magee led the ground game with 89 yards, and a touchdown, on 23 carries. Ali Henson picked up 78 yards on five carries.

Magee was 8-16 passing for 88 yards. Johnny Wilson had two catches for 27 yards and Anthony Jones three for 14 yards.

The Bears picked up 13 first downs on the night and were penalized nine times for 75 yards. Jack Runnels punted three times for 35.7 yards.

Ragsdale led the Hinds offense with 13 carries for 170 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He and his teammates finished with just over 300 yards on the ground.

Tylan Morton was 8-14 through the air for 170 yards with two touchdowns.

Hinds registered eight first downs in the game and were penalized six times for 27 yards. Flumm punted twice for 16.5 yards.

The Bears hit the road for their next contest as they visit the Jones College Bobcats on September 27. Kickoff in Ellisville is scheduled for 7:00.
