The Bears and host Mississippi Gulf Coast Bulldogs battled from start to finish Friday night in Perkinston before the Bears prevailed in a nail-biter, 5-3. Jarrett Green's second-half goal proved to be the game-winner as the Bears remained undefeated at 5-0 and 2-0 in the MACJC's South Division.

Patrick Larsen put the Bears up 1-0 at 9:40 of the game, with an assist from Max Higginbotham, when he took a deflection of Higginbotham's missed shot and fired the ball into the back of the net.

At 10:23 of the game, Marcus Connolly dribbled the ball down the line and played it across the six. Higginbotham then took the ball and put it in the bottom left corner for a 2-0 Bears lead.

The Bulldogs (1-5, 0-3 South) got on the board at 12:12 and added another goal at 24:50 to deadlock the game at 2-2.

At the 43:49 mark, the ball came into Joaquin Bermejillo who laid it off to Larsen just inside the 18. Larsen then put it away in the bottom left corner, for his 13th goal of the season, to put the Bears up 3-2 at the half.

In the second half, the Bulldogs scored at 47:52 to tie the game at 3-3. The game would remain tied until the 71:00 mark when Bermejillo sent a corner kick into the back post. Green then headed the ball into the top right corner to give the Bears a 4-3 advantage, one they would not relinquish.

The deal was sealed at 83:36 when PJ Irwin played the ball over the top to the head of Felipe Madero Madero then sent it into the bottom left corner of the post with a right-footed volley.

"It was an incredible team victory," said Bears head coach Alex Brown. "They (the Bulldogs) equalized us twice, but we kept our composure and kept battling. I'm extremely proud of our effort and I'm very proud of my boys. Gulf Coast has a good team. Those boys were tough and they really made us work for everything."

"As exciting of a win as it is," Brown continued, "we have to continue to work. We have a lot of big games coming up and we have to stay locked in. Relaxing or becoming complacent isn't an option."

The Bears return to action on September 19 in Poplarville when they face defending MACJC/NJCAA Region 23 tournament title holders Pearl River in a crucial South Division matchup. Game time is 7:00.
